  • The speaker cover on the newest Polycom Trio is a very soft fabric that gets dirty quick.

Polycom Trio - Good but not the best

Pros

  • Polycom Trio keeps your meeting room clean with only 1 or 2 cord inputs.
  • Polycom Trio brings three Zoom necessities into one device; Room Controller, Speaker, and Microphone.

Cons

  • Our greatest disappointment in Polycom Trio was the lag in using the screen, it wasn't nearly as intuitive and "snappy" as the iPads were.
  • Paired next to the iPad's, the Polycom Trio was much more expensive and couldn't be a justified member of our mass Zoom Room adoption.

Return on Investment

  • Due to previously mentioned negatives about the product, including the price, we decided to cut the Polycom Trio from our Zoom Room lineup.

Other Software Used

Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Skype for Business (formerly Lync)

The standard in video conference for mid to large size meeting rooms

Pros

  • Ease of operation
  • Microphone pickup
  • Ease of setup

Cons

  • Compatibility with other communication systems
  • Expensive maintenance support

Return on Investment

  • Coming form previous Polycom unit we didn't need to re-train users so that's a saving right there
  • Support required is minimal so this frees up IT resources

Usability

Trio has worked wonderfully for our organization

Pros

  • Lync/Skype Integration - The Trio can be used in an existing organization that regularly uses Skype for Business, it makes the user experience seamless.
  • Phone Conferences - If you have the PBX Licenses installed, the phone can be used to dial out and receive phone calls inbound. Sound Clarity is very good.
  • Video Conference - Fair video quality for using existing Skype for Business infrastructure.

Cons

  • Skype Functionality is a bit buggy, at least on earlier versions. Updates have improved functionality, but i'd like to have an easier way to manage the content displayed on Screen.
  • Ability to use as a SIP phone while still using Skype functionality would be the best feature, unfortunately the way it currently works, you can only either use the Skype functionality or the SIP Functionality. Which means we have to pay per month for Skype PBX Licenses and cannot integrate directly into our PBX with an internal extension.

Return on Investment

  • Increase in Conference Call productivity. Using the Skype For Business integration, we can share content on screen and hold video conferences where anyone can join with a skype for business account.
  • Users have adopted the system easily.
  • Reduced travel expenses for meetings.
