What is Radware Bot Manager?

Radware Bot Manager (formerly ShieldSquare) is a non-intrusive API-based Bot Management solution to detect, eliminate, and manage bot traffic from websites, mobile apps, and APIs in real-time. The solution leverages Intent-based Deep Behavior Analysis, device fingerprinting, and domain-specific detection technologies to identify and eliminate invalid traffic with zero false positives. The vendor states they protect users against automated attacks such as account takeover, application DDoS, API abuse, card fraud, content scraping, skewed analytics, ad fraud, form spam, and other malicious activities. Bot Manager boasts safeguarding over 80,000 internet properties owned by global brands spread across 70 countries, in industries including Classifieds, Finance, Retail, Digital Publishing, Travel, Advertising, Gaming, Healthcare, Online auctions, and more.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Radware Bot Manager is being used across the network to minimize various security issues. Mainly to detect, eliminate and manage bot traffic from websites application programming interfaces (commonly known as APIs) and mobile-based applications. As I am attached Financial Sector, people's money is being affected and our main focus is to secure people's money and Radware Bot Manager helps to do it.

Pros

ShieldSquare provides an easy to implement way of identifying website users that could be bots.
By rating the potential of the user of being a bot, we are able to handle that user in the proper way.
False positives are extremely rare with ShieldSquare. Plus, their support staff is also available to analyze traffic to specific content, and they can customize their algorithms when necessary to optimize the performance of their solution to suit our needs.

Cons

Overall, I’m happy with bot detection and management features offered by ShieldSquare.

Return on Investment

Our specific need was to prevent the theft of game codes given to us to give out to our site users.
The implementation of ShieldSquare has been very positive in achieving this goal. They strengthened our security perimeter. Our users are happy, and the companies that provide us with the game codes are happy as well with the results.

Pros

ShieldSquare can be integrated easily with the out-of-the-box web server plugins and cloud connectors for existing IT infrastructure.
No specialized hardware or consultants required, which saves a lot in terms of costs and administration overheads for eCommerce businesses like ours.
The support team thoroughly understands our needs and challenges and then proposes the right course of action suited for our business model.

Cons

It would be nice to allow for more granularity when selecting which bots I'd like to allow through. I contacted support and asked about this and they said this was in the works.
If you select to show captchas instead of blocking, I feel their captcha screen could use some improvement on the UI/UX to make it more intuitive for users to know what to do. I contacted support and made them aware of this.
Would be nice to see captchas information in the statistics (i.e. how many captchas were presented, from what IP addresses, how many were filled out correctly),

Return on Investment

Our analytics dashboard shows the correct data.
Our traffic has been genuine with most if not all of bot traffic eliminated.
We can now protect our pricing strategy from the competition.

Pros

Bot detection is great, goes far beyond checking user agents or requests/second.
Lots of integration options. You can use connectors in your code (php, javascript, etc) or in your webserver (nginx, etc.)
Support is awesome.

Cons

Supply precompiled versions of nginx with the ShieldSquare connector.

Return on Investment

Difficult to put an exact number on it, but ShieldSquare helps us to prevent people stealing our content that might end up on torrent sites etc.
