Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Synoptix as a report writer. All end users who need access to our ERP data use Synoptix to view said data. Our ERP does not have quality reports built in and Synoptix allows us to build custom reports that address our reporting needs.

  • Cutom report building
  • Allows for easy accessibility control for end users
  • Simple interface
  • Great customer service and technical support

Cons

  • I wish there were some features from Excel that were included
  • Sometimes difficult to have both desktop and web versions be separate
  • Printed reports don't always look as good as when they are on the screen

Likelihood to Recommend

Synoptix has been great for us to allow end users access to the data and information they need to make informed decisions without letting them have full access to all ERP functions. It has also been very easy to create custom reports that meet our needs. It is also nimble enough to create quick reports that are needed with a small turnaround.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use it as a financial tool. My current operating system doesn't show the accounts on the screen and I use Synotpix to run totals. I also use Synoptix to see if accounts are valid and if I am needing to create new accounts. I am learning how to prepare the financial statements in it as well.

  • I can see the accounts that I enter into the system
  • I like that it can create and use excel functions for reporting
  • Validate accounts

Cons

  • I don't like using many buttons to click into a window.
  • It isn't really user friendly - am using the desktop not the cloud

Since our operating system doesn't let me see the account in real time I can in Synoptix and able to see current and other years.

Pros

  • summarize detailed ledger data
  • run same report quickly after it is created
  • easy set up of reports

Cons

  • lag time when I am working with a vpn
  • reminder if save hasn't happened before leaving set up screen

Likelihood to Recommend

The lag time and sometimes not saving are my only down sides. There are lots of time saving by being able to rerun information quickly month after month once report is set up.

Love the quick way to compare budget vs actual on multiple accounts at once

I use it for analyzing budget data. I have some preset reports that I can easily modify for whatever accounts I want to quickly review. I like the fact that I can drill down to see the data behind the reported numbers. I would like to use it for more robust reporting and graphing. I just haven't gotten there yet. It is fairly intuitive, but does not work exactly like Excel. I appreciate that they continue to improve the functionality.

We use Synoptix for monthly reports to the Board of Governors. The reports are built to reflect the same format as the annual financial statements in the audit report.

The Finance department is using Synoptix to better work with budgets and spending around the institution.

Pros

  • Has a lot of flexibility
  • It is customizable

Cons

  • Hard to setup and install
  • Requires a lot of training as it could be confusing

It is excellent if set up well, and users are well trained on how to use it as it is not very user-friendly. But to achieve that, you have to go through the hell of a setup. Support is not knowledgeable in some areas of the software, it is tough to set up and install, and when presented by salespeople, it is all great, but you need to invest a lot to pay it off.

Synoptix is a tool which pulls financial info from our ERP software (Made2Manage) to provide better reports and visibility of our accounts.

Pros

  • Provides a single pane of glass for all accounting and GL reporting.
  • Easy to pull reports in a simple manner.
  • Fairly easy to train new employees on how to pull the information needed for their day to day jobs.

Cons

  • It has a poor install procedure which is not standard. It almost requires copying folders from an existing computer to the new install.
  • The update process is less than desirable. It seems like Compusoft needs to do a better job of testing before releasing updates.
  • The interface is a bit archaic. It looks more like a program from 20 years ago than one used today.

Likelihood to Recommend

Synoptix really has only one purpose and while it has some shortcomings, it does adequately perform its job.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Synoptix is currently our main system for building and reporting financial data. We have created nearly all of our internal and external financial reports using their system and scheduler to push reports to individual departments in HTML or CSV formats.

Pros

  • Easy report building interface with an query interface that allows financial users the ability to conduct complex queries without difficulty.
  • The ability to create reporting that allows us to review in-depth financial review by drilling down into accounts to find transnational data easily.
  • Easily maintained and monitored with simple upgrade installations and end point installation.
  • Great knowledge base for review and trouble-shooting.
  • Highly knowledgeable and easy to work with staff.

Cons

  • End point installations are a little confusing for some of our support staff. There's no direct installation wizard.

Likelihood to Recommend

By supporting our business office and utilizing Synoptix we have been able to reduce our Y/E closing procedures greatly and improve on our campus communication of account activities.

Flexible and easy to use reporting tool

Synoptix is being used by the accounting and finance team for transactional reports, analysis reports, and preparing the financials each month. Synoptix allows us to create reports in a more flexible and time efficient way to get the data we need.

  • Occasionally there is a bug in running the report

Likelihood to Recommend

Synoptix is a great tool for anyone who is running the financials manually from their ERP system and then manipulating them into the proper format. This tool can take hours (if not days) of work and turn it into a 5 minute job. I have also found a lot of value from running analysis reports. The ability to drill into the system to see individual transactions is incredibly valuable. While there are occasionally bugs with the system, the customer service team at Synoptix is very responsive and always ready to help. I enjoy working with them and would buy the software again.
