I am a Special Education Teacher, and use the program as an interactive learning tool that measures student progress, and provides differentiated lessons and activities.

Lessons are aligned to alternate academic standards. Monthly thematic units allow for repeated exposure and skill generalization. Pre-planned lessons reduce reliance on staff-created materials. Consistent lesson formats help paraprofessionals follow routines. Materials can be printed and reused without extensive prep. Familiar task layouts reduce anxiety. Clear alignment to alternate standards supports audits and ARD meetings.

I am a middle school ESE teacher that teaches grades 6-8. With such a large range of students with a spectrum of needs, I need a curriculum that is flexible, adaptable and on standard. Unique Learning System is the only learning system that provides scaffolded materials at grade level for my students. It did not get a 10 star because I feel the online version is not user friendly for special needs students to work independently. The tiles are confusing and do not provide context or make sense to at times. Also, students can turn in assignments without completing them which I feel is not productive. There should be a way to turn that off. I would also like more resources for history and science. I enjoy finding materials that are on level so my students can complete them together in a group. I love that it provides different levels so all my students can be working on the same thing at their own level.

For an ACCESS points curriculum, it provides many resources for students to complete on standard assignments. I enjoy using the ELA materials for comprehension, writing and grammar. The math materials are also helpful but are limited and repetitive. The structure is familiar and consistent which is helpful, but the site itself feels like it has a lot of responses but not provided in a user-friendly way online.

I fully appreciate the immense capability of the Unique Learning System to bring excellent educational possibilities to students with Exceptional Needs. This is my 14th year using this unique curriculum and I am always able to discover new and innovative ways to bring lessons to life. We use the Unique Learning System every day at school. I teach an autism-specific, 1st and 2nd-grade, and I have students on all 3 levels of the Unique Learning System curriculum. This leveled instruction greatly benefits my students. I like to print the materials for hands-on learning. I like to use the N2Y options available for my students.

Unique Learning System is best used in my autism classroom when materials are printed and used during small-group activities. When trying to teach in a whole-group setting, only about half of the class pays attention to the lessons. They seem a little too long at times and not engaging, so a small group seems more appropriate for my students.

I use it in a Jr High Self-Contained classroom to differentiate the lessons to the ability levels of the students. The program also lets me collect IEP goal data that is appropriate and useful. I really like that I can print specific parts at the correct level for students who cannot use technology while assigning online versions for others at higher levels.

An issue with the program is that it needs more "current" topics that are for older kids who are at lower levels. I have students who are into "K Pop Demon Hunters" but reading at 1st grade levels so finding stuff to engage them is hard.

I have actually recommended it to another teacher in a different district for her autism program since she could level and pace it easily and also easily collect IEP data without stressing out her students with extra work. Unique Learning System is also a good program for our autism program because it is consistent with all core subjects, making is very routine based.

I use Unique Learning System to meet some of the educational needs of my students who are medically fragile.

When combined with real objects to go along with the stories and pre- programmed vocabulary pages for each student via their current communication mode, Unique Learning System's Leveled and Easy Read books provide teachers with students who have multiple disabilities a way to introduce and expose students to social studies and science based concepts in a meaningful way which allows for students to have opportunities to be active participants throughout the lesson.

I use Unique Learning System for support in English and Math. The students read one of the issues for the week as a class, then break off into small groups with differentiated groups with teachers support to complete some of the activities. I also use the readings for some of the holidays as well as Joey's Locker when we need a quick activity.

Likelihood to Recommend

Unique Learning System is a great resource for my class. I think News2You is the best feature as it allows differentiation, engagement on high-interest topics, and properly scaffolded activities. Reading the News2You issue is great for my class because it allows non-readers and readers alike to participate in the same activity as the program will read for some students. I would say it is less appropriate in Science and Social Studies. I don't like the formatting of the lessons and, while the reading levels are great, there are no immediate follow up questions or activities to check for understanding. I realize that I can create those myself, but I think Unique Learning System does a great job with the supporting visuals. I would also love to be able to put whole sentences into SymbolStix and have them generate visuals automatically. It is tedious to go back and forth between typing something and providing the accompanying visuals on a word by word basis.

I use Unique Learning System in my multi-grade classroom for students ages 5-11, who are working on academic content at a pre-academic-3rd grade levels.

I like using the Unique Learning System benchmarks to discover student levels. I also like that the content looks very similar to alternative standardized assessments. There are many options for activities to address several skills.

I am an Education Specialist and use Unique Learning System weekly. My class enjoys the News2You issues and activities to support their learning. We also make a shopping list from the recipes and cook those on Fridays. We also liked the breaking news, but unfortunately, the format has changed, and it is no longer visually supported enough for my students to read and comprehend. I really hope this gets changed back.

Again, there is much to offer and most is able to be adjusted to needs, but really need to change back to the levels on breaking news

Unique Learning System is great for progress monitoring and/or themed monthly lessons. You do have to supplement, especially with the math section.
