Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Vertex for U.S. sales tax and U.S. use tax, including Sales and Purchase transactions. We also use SAP accelerator and LCR Tools.

Pros

Calculate SUT.
Help with AP PO calculations.
Provide transaction reports to support returns on demand.

Cons

Create a more user-friendly search feature for look-up tables with multiple pages.
When logging into Oseries, have the "as of date" default to the current date rather than the cached value.
Create a transaction report that allows for a single line for an invoice with taxes by the 4 categories listed horizontally rather than vertically for audits.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Vertex to support both sales and purchase transactions, US Sales Tax and US Use tax.

Pros

The Vertex system is user friendly- when I have questions or run into any issue the Help Desk is always there to assist- very grateful for the help!
The system is reliable and keeps us up to date with any changes in tax rules/tax rates so this makes our jobs easier.
Communication and inclusion- Vertex does a great job on this- with the user groups and the Vertex Exchange, you get to interact with Vertex employees along with other users like yourself. You learn ho other companies are handling tax situations, and get ideas on what we can incorporate into our work to help get better results.

Cons

When I first sign into Vertex- the date defaults to like March 2025. So each time, I have to change to the current date.
In using Procurement, sometimes I find it difficult to match up what we are purchasing to the correct coding or sometimes we get accruals- because of the wrong setup, some are our user errors also.... We do lots of accruals reversals.
Those are the only two I can think of...

We have been using Vertex for more than 10 years, when invoicing our customers I have 100% confidence that every invoice is going out with correct determination on taxability. We recently had some variances in Florida with the max tax; the Vertex help desk assisted me with this, and we worked together on getting this correctly set up for us.

We are using Vertex for both Sales and Purchase Transactions. We support Sales Tax and use tax.

Pros

Its provides complete configuration guide for integrations with ERP.
Real-Time Tax Calculation for High-Volume Transactions.
Handling Extremely Complex U.S. Sales Tax Jurisdictions.
Managing Different Taxability Rules by Product.

Cons

Multiple configuration layers.
Limited access in the public cloud and to get logs, we need to depend on them.
Troubleshooting Integration Issues Can Be Difficult.
Implementation Can Be Time-Consuming.

Likelihood to Recommend

Automatically determines tax jurisdiction based on shipping address. Applies state, county, city, and special district taxes. Updates tax rules regularly, determines correct VAT rules, supports cross-border tax logic, and maintains global tax content. For Small or Medium Businesses Using Vertex may be too expensive and complex.

Currently, our O Series instance supports sales transactions for US sales tax only. A new phase in 2026-2027 will extend to purchase transactions and will add Canadian VAT.

Certificate Center partitioning (PRD vs. DEV) was a bit challenging from the Vertex administration side
The reporting features, while intuitive, can be clunky especially when rolling up line level vs. header (gross) level figures.
Investigate whether any existing products - specifically the Commerce Tools integration - need a full evaluation of continued technical effectiveness.

Likelihood to Recommend

Vertex is well-connected with all of its marketplace partners. I've had specific experience getting issues resolved with resources from Microsoft, Grant Thornton, and Vertex all on the same call.

We use Vertex for VAT and US Sale tax. VAT is used for all transaction related to EMEA transaction ( Sales and Purchase). US sales tax is used for US and Canada only for Sales trnasactions

Pros

Tax rates and changes are automatically update as and when changes are effective in multiple countries
Vertex support mechanism is very good, any issues or tickets are handled well within the timelines
Integration of the Vertex system with ERP system is also very good

Cons

Vertex can do well in Tax reporting
Vertex needs to improve the country based Tax filing reports. We still rely on Tax Specialist to file the returns

Value of Money, Since all the tax updates and automatically handled , we do not need to have costly resources managing the task.

The implementation of Vertex in a new step takes about 3 mths and its ROI can be achieved withing 2 yrs

Up until the end of the year we were using Vertex to assist with the filing of sales / use tax returns, but since that process has been outsourced we are no longer using that particular product. Now we are using the Vertex Tax Engine and Exempt Certificate Manager system to assist with the calculation of sales and use tax, and for storage of the exempt certificates.

Pros

Customer service is top notch, and always has been. Usually a question is answered / resolved during the initial call.
Products are simple and easy to use. This doesn't mean it's not a robust system, because it is. Vertex has made it very easy to use.
Vertex notifies of any changes happening at the state / local level in a timely manner, giving us the opportunity to react appropriately.

Cons

For the exempt certificate manager, would like to be able to complete and send exempt certificates right from the system
For the exempt certificate manager, would like to be able to send a link and have the customer complete and return their certificate for our review

I have used Vertex since the very beginning of my career. I have always found the information clear, and easy to use. The documentation to use the product was thorough. We file returns in all 45 states that have sales / use taxes and having the ability to import data, key additional data in and print out a signature ready return has made life easy. I've never wanted to look at any other return preparation software as none of them come close to the product that Vertex created.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Vertex is used for both sales and purchase transactions in most of the countries we are doing tax returns. We are also using it for U.S. sales and use tax and for VAT in EU countries. We are using Vertex O for tax calculation it communicates Oracle and calculates tax on invoices and also exports data from there. Also using VVC and VITR for the preparation of the sales listings and tax returns.

I think the tax calculation is very good because of the automated maintenance of the tax rates. The Vertex export and import to VITR/VVC is also good, but for the U.S. we are using VITR which is better for me than VVC. Easier to generate EDI files for trasmitting data or only uploading those to the companies web page rather than manual data import.

Pros

Our Customer Success Representative has been fantastic in assisting with research and resolving questions.
The community resources provide an excellent source of information and documentation related to the Vertex line of products.
Communication of changes in tax laws.

Some of the mapping tools within Vertex could use some updating.
