I like portals -- for creating smaller, focused environments for users.
Search power and meta data -- fields
Saving new versions over old versions
Archiving capabilities
Share links for external users and web use

Thumbnails and Lists, is good, but sometimes I'd like to see thumbnails in different sizes

Aquia DAM (Widen) is very reliable. The interface is easy. The support team is reachable. There are education "modules" when you want to learn more and they don't cost extra. I use this tool everyday with ease. I have learned to upload and download assets. Our company requires metadata be added when uploading -- this ensures an asset has information included along with an expiration date.
