Overall Satisfaction with Adobe Acrobat

I work in the Disability office of a large community college. We use Adobe Acrobat on a regular basis for accessibility remediation. While it isn't perfect, it is probably one of the best pieces of software out there for what we do.

It's downsides tend to be in the smaller things, like occasionally resizing/moving text while trying to change the reading order, or not being able to OCR text properly if other readable text is already on the page.

Pros

  • Tagging
  • Reading Order
  • Accessibility
  • Edit a PDF
  • Convert Images to text

Cons

  • Being able to OCR specific areas on a page. For example, a screenshot of text, that is on a page with already rendered text
  • Being able to OCR and edit fuzzier text
  • Not crashing/glitching when trying to change the Reading Order. Sometimes text will flip upside down, enlarge the font and move the to bottom of the page, without the ability to undo.
  • Not moving text on top of other text when trying to change the Reading Order.
  • Unknown ROI, as I am not involved in purchasing
  • It is our first choice for remediation before shifting to other software like OmniPage or ABBYY FineReader.
  • It is for the most part, the industry standard.
  • Scalability
  • Integration with Other Systems
  • Ease of Use
For my department, the ability to remediate educational materials for students with disabilities. For the college, it provides software that can be used with most materials.
