Overall Satisfaction with Adobe PhotoShop

I started using Adobe PhotoShop 3.0 at SDSU’s graphic design lab, during my undergraduate studies in 2000. Since that time, I have employed various versions of it — now working with PhotoShop CS — in professional environments (newspaper and online advertising, financial services marketing, global welding company marketing, law firm marketing and my own business in which I use it for designing things like logos and book covers). I also use Adobe PhotoShop for fine art applications. It offers the ability to optimize images for use with other applications such as InDesign and Powerpoint.
  • Optimize images in countless ways for use with other applications
  • Create web-ready images with transparent backgrounds
  • Combine images for fine art applications
  • Clean up headshots (fix /whiten teeth, get rid of skin imperfections and wrinkles, etc.).
  • The gradient tool is harder to use than it used to be
  • The software takes a lot of RAM to run and when it needs more space, (which can happen in the middle of a project) it can be time consuming and frustrating to fix.
  • The purge (cache) only works temporarily. When Photoshop has used all available RAM and is using the scratch disk, the performance slow.
  • As a creative services professional, when I design something, 80% of the time Photoshop is involved in some way. It's probably my favorite application of all time.
  • The minimum RAM requirement is not need at least 8 GB, especially if you're using InDesign and Illustrator (which I usually am) at the same time.
  • Photoshop CC also requires additional hard disk space to install the software.

For a digital photographer, Adobe PhotoShop makes your work shine whether your working with simple object images or complex images with many fine details. Adjusting light, contrast, brightness, hue and color saturation is easy.

Using the pen tool, clipping paths and layers allow for the creation of a clean designs that are easily exported and used with publishing software, saved for later use or directly printed. Photographers may choose to use Adobe Lightroom instead of Adobe PhotoShop as it takes less space on your hard drive, but for artists or designers that need room and tools to create, Adobe Photoshop offers endless options.
