Overall Satisfaction with Algolia

I've used Algolia on several projects from a search on an e-commerce website, to a search solution for our internal company portal. We wanted to have a robust search solution for our customers and employees and building our own solution would have taken months, if not years. The fact that we could use Algolia to quickly implement a robust search solution in days was a huge selling-point for our stakeholders.
  • Searching
  • Filtering data
  • Providing solid SDKs for multiple languages and frameworks
  • More integrations that would automatically load data to search
  • Uptick in purchases of higher-value products
  • Ability for employees to search data across multiple tools in one place
While AWS's offering is a typically cheaper solution, it requires a lot of work to gain any of the core features of Algolia. The cost of dev time and long-term maintenance would be more than the costs incurred with Algolia, which is why it made the most sense financially. On the engineering side, we could give our stakeholders access to Algolia to adjust the indices themselves, which would allow us to focus on other work.

Do you think Algolia delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Algolia's feature set?

Yes

Did Algolia live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Algolia go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Algolia again?

Yes

If you need to implement a fully customizable search solution quickly, there is no doubt that Algolia is the leader in that space. Our stakeholders particularly liked that you can adjust how search results are shown to the user. For example, when working on an e-commerce site, we were able to rank specific results based on keywords, which drove the users to click on more valuable products.

In cases where you have several dispersed data sets you want to be searchable in a single index, it's best to try to conform all of the data to work in a single index versus using Algolia multi-index search as it's complex to order the results correctly.
