Overall Satisfaction with AlphaSense

We use AlphaSense to obtain access to competitor analysis and analyst reports, market sizing and potential and market trends.
Its use for us is limited, as all of these tools are, as we still have limited visibility to private players, but it is getting better all the time.
Its A.I. powered auto summary with positive and negative sentiment of earnings calls etc is a real time-saver.

Pros

  • I. Sentiment summary
  • Analyst report access
  • Hints and Tips from the support team

Cons

  • More rounded financial reviews
  • Collaborate with companies like Buro Van Dyck etc to get more info on private companies
  • Deeper competitive insights
  • Faster production of insights
It's still not a general market research product, though it is making advances.
It's good at what it does, but aggregation and dissemination of more generalised data isn't there yet, for me.
Newsletters and embeddable dashboards are a must for a CI platform to have a chance in the market against strong competition.
It helps us with research when we have a question. What is does not yet do - for us - is raised new ideas or provide guided thought leadership.
For this reason, we log in when we need to or when customer service indicates a new feature is available, play around a little and then return to normal work.
They all provide different solutions that cater for specific needs.
Crayon is the general purpose software - better at general CI than AlphaSense.
WideNarrow is another version, and provides a glossy output, now backed by Infodesk.
FIBRES is good at organising risk information and articles into a PESTEL or other radar - great for getting the attention of exec leadership, but hard to figure out how to use the platform afterwards.

Do you think AlphaSense delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with AlphaSense's feature set?

Yes

Did AlphaSense live up to sales and marketing promises?

No

Did implementation of AlphaSense go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy AlphaSense again?

Yes

It's good for quick searches on known competitors to find latest information, reports, analysis.
Private company research remains a challenge.
Accessing reports through links don't often go direct to source, but lead you to the system. This is not advantageous for other readers without licenses and other platforms offer a different model where readers don't have to have a license.

Using AlphaSense

2 - Business development and strategy
Basic checking of industry and competitor news feeds. Transfer of findings to a corporate internet and news relevant feeds
  • Competitor Intelligence
  • Market Size Intelligence
  • New Patent Applications
  • Analyst Reports
  • Summarising results calls using their AI summariser
  • Understanding market size and growth opportunities
  • Comparing performance of more than one company
It does the job and makes a few things a little easier for us. We don't need to save the money, so we can afford a useful tool

Evaluating AlphaSense and Competitors

  • Other
I wanted access to paywall restricted professional content on a single platform.
I was looking for a specifically research-focused solution, not a broad multi-user system
Whilst hard, a very clear use case is necessary. Most of these platforms do something similar, and sometimes overalapping, but you need to fully understand your audience, user base, elevated license users etc.
A much more thorough demonstration as well as probing questions to the sales partner are necessary to really understand the capabilities, and more importantly, the limitations of the offering

AlphaSense Support

Their customer service is actually pretty engaging and responsive. I have nothing bad to say
ProsCons
Quick Resolution
Good followup
Knowledgeable team
Problems get solved
Kept well informed
No escalation required
Immediate help available
Support cares about my success
Quick Initial Response
None
No. We just aren't a busy or active enough user group to need that right now
They email each week and provide great user tips. I've learned a few things

Using AlphaSense

ProsCons
Like to use
Well integrated
Consistent
Unnecessarily complex
Difficult to use
Requires technical support
Slow to learn
Cumbersome
Lots to learn
  • The AI is quite well integrated including natural language search
  • search results retrieval, especially AI generated summaries can be a little slow.
  • Searches can bring back a large number of results that are displayed as a simple list - this would be better with improved categorisation, filtering and grouping
  • Scrolling through documents can be painfully slow as it seems the system intentionally retrieves single pages only - probably something to do with the per-use licensing of the paid sources
Yes - I don't use it too often, but it can be useful for a quick search from time to time when on the road

AlphaSense Reliability

I am not sure if I buy fully into their current licensing model. Some organisations have many readers and few expert users.
Never had a problem with availability
I think it's okay. A few page calls can be a little boring for the impatient
