Alteryx can accelerate your digital journey with the right approach
Overall Satisfaction with Alteryx
Alteryx enabled users with deep business and customer knowledge the ability to quickly access data, transform it into information, and then determine long term benefit by rapidly prototyping solutions. Speed to insight is critical to lower the cost in prototypeing before full scale technology solutions can/should be built.
Pros
- Data Blending
- Speed to Insight and Value
- Low barrier to entry
- Springboard to growing your technical skill set
Cons
- Native cloud deployment (client and server)
- Integration with Google Cloud Platform (but improving)
- Enterprise Management for IT support teams - User, Job, and Server monitoring, Software deployment, Server Maintenance
- In 9 years, we can measure 10s of millions in type 1 benefit in areas ranging from Inventory Management to Customer Experience to Sales and Marketing
- Alteryx can be both a value accelerator and a shadow IT factory in medium and large companies. The ever changing balance is determining your organizations ability and willingness for constant dialogue between value and sustainability. Organizations must develop a "SDLC for Alteryx" as well as define uses cases that are appropriate. Otherwise organizations can only accelerate 'shadow IT' and possibly fragment both IT spend/resources and increase data/support risk due to fragmentation.
- Alteryx is described as a no code/low code framework and toolset. I recommend you approach it as a low code accelerator. Without training/knowledge of core database, scripting/coding essentials, SQL, R, Python basics, and other technology skills, your users will generate less than optimal value both short and long term. Server costs will be higher, workflows will be unoptimized, sub optimal coding practices, and data security dos and don't will all be areas your organization will eventually need to face possibly after bad habits are the norm.
Previous to Alteryx aquiring Trifacta, we looked at it as a possible compliment/replacement. WIth the aquistion, we are looking to the roadmap on full integration and are very excited. Trifacta brings a cloud native solution but currently lacks many of the features/functions that current Alteryx Designer/Server provide.
Knime is also a powerful framework but many organizational specific needs were better served with maintaining our relationship with Alteryx.
