Overall Satisfaction with Altium 365

I work on hardware design. I use Altium 365 when designing PCBs, to review other people's work and to get my work reviewed by others (even without using the actual Altium software). It is also helpful for saving older versions of the projects I am working on the cloud on and working with other engineers on the same project.

Pros

  • Version control
  • Review of projects online
  • Online collaboration
  • BOM Management

Cons

  • Comments are sometimes lagging
  • Editing online
  • Exporting BOMs, Assembly and pick and place files directly from the browser
  • Communication with the client is improved
  • Communication within the team is improved
  • Confusion with version control can occur when two people work together
I am overall happy with the usability. It is pretty easy to use and navigate. It could be missing some functionalities that would make it a 10 for me and my colleagues. Also, sometimes comments placed on the cloud are not easily visible on the desktop app or take a lot of time to appear, which reduces the rating to 8.
I have used Kicad for PCB design in the past but Altium 365 has always been my number one choice. It's been a few years since I last used Kicad but Altium 365 offers more tools. I am not sure whether there is an equivalent to Altium 365 for KiCad (version control and sharing online)

Well suited when your colleague has to review your work and does not need to install the software. Well suited when the client needs to review your work and add comments.

Less appropriate for working with someone (you still design working with the desktop app). Same when you need to package your final design and send for production. These things are much easier done on the desktop app.
