Overall Satisfaction with Arcserve Backup
We use two products of Arcservce Backup: Arcservce RHA and Arcserve Backup UDP. Arcserve Backup RHA is to real-time replication backup, Arcserve Backup UDP is periodic file or object backup. We use Arcserve Backup RHA for our databases VMs replication in case of hardware/Power/Facility failures so that we have most recent data. We use Arcserve Backup UDP for VMs, files, and any other objects that need periodic backup or anything needs recovery point other than the most recent. So far they work well and meet our requirement.
Pros
- rea-time data replication
- VMs, files and objects backup
- Recovery point of data restoration
- Partition level backup
Cons
- We use Arcserve Backup RHA for database replication, but once we switch over, database SQL server level replication stopped working.
- Solves that problem that we need data mirror and the switchover is easy.
- For the Arcserve Backup RHA switchover may cause problems for the functions inside the database VM, for example, the SQL Server's own replication may not be working after switchover.
- Solves the problem that any objects need periodic backup providing recovery point choice.
We also use Veeam replication and backups for VMWare level data redundancy. It works so far as stable as Arcserve Backup. We use both in our systems as we deploy VMs since Veeam works closely with VCenter. But if we need to backup physical servers, and OS partition level backups, which can only be achieved by Arcserve Backup.
