Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Arcserve Cloud Direct as our secondary offsite cloud
backup solution.We
use Arcserve Backup UDP for our primary image based backup and data protection
solution. By using this solution, there are many advantages as well as some low points, to say so.
Some
of our company managed services are based upon clients running Arcserve
Backup.

Pros and Cons

Pros

It offers excellent features like dedupe, high availability, DR, and BMR.
Arcserve Backup has many offerings to fit many business sizes and needs.
Arcserve Backup sales and technical support is good to work with.
Very nice reseller program and benefits.

Cons

They don't always explain that for Arcserve Backup to work well, and it requires specific system requirements and extensive internet bandwidth.
To utilize Arcserve Backup and all its features may require a layout of dedicated equipment or additional infrastructure.
Depending on the add-ons, Arcserve Backup can be costly.

Usability

Arcserve Backup support is usually very good. Their chat is
usually able to fix most general issues, but will escalate more in depth issues
to technical engineers that call you back. Their product knowledge is really
good and usually resolve issues promptly. Arcserve
Backup is more hands off with the initial backup configuration and do not have
a basic SQL Template

Alternatives Considered

Unitrends

Both have similar feature sets. Unitrends seems to have a set number of configuration
options for each environment and lays those templates down, whereas Arcserve
Backup is more hands off with the initial backup configuration and do not have
a basic SQL Template, for example. So Unitrends appears to be easier to get up and running
out of the box.
