Overall Satisfaction

Jira is currently being used for bug tracking and project tracking in all departments of the organization.

Jira is being used for gathering bugs and issues by individual departments, and in IT we use for software bug tracking and IT task management. It is also being used for project tracking and prioritization of projects from Business users. It is used for timely tracking of issues and resolving the issues on time.
  • One of the strengths is to log an issue in Jira through email. End users can email the respective departments support email addresses that are mapped to respective project groups in Jira and the issue is logged.
  • Jira provides the ability to create dashboards for individual use or share with the group, and add reports based on filters on to the dashboard. It helps to view all the bugs or projects assigned to an individual and helps in better project management.
  • Group Admins can add custom fields to the bug tracking or project tracking forms that helps to manage the issues more effectively and based on individual group needs.
  • One of the strengths that allows to log issues through email is also its weakness, since users tend to email the issues with multiple threads in the email and its hard to find the actual issue the user is trying to relate to in the issue log.
  • When the user emails with screenshots in the messages, the screenshots are converted as an attachments and its hard to relate the message to the screenshot. This might be possible with newer layout options in Jira but haven't tried it yet.
  • Change management process is not the best in Jira. Having a workflow type display of the next approver in the approval chain would be helpful, to allow the users to escalate it with the approver.
  • Jira helps to log projects and issues effectively and helps with prioritization of the issues to work on by the support team, or helps to identify and prioritize to work on the projects that have impact on revenue.
  • Jira helps with better project management within the respective groups, improved employee efficiency and also better customer service.
  • BMC Track-It
Jira was already implemented before I joined in my current organization. Jira does stand out better than BMC Track-IT. Jira can be hosted in the cloud, has better workflows and ability to add custom fields, and add scripting to even customize the user experience better.
Jira seem to provide the benefits and usage for the bug and project tracking software, and it does work for us so we will renew the licenses.
If the user is looking to log and track issues, there are many Help Desk or Project Management Tracking tools and wouid evaluate those as well.
