Overall Satisfaction with Atlassian Jira

- Dev tasks and projects management (mainly the low level task decomposition). - Release notes. - Automated updates about releases to the corporate messenger. - Commit-tasks linking.

Pros

  • Integration with branches and commits
  • Complex task filtering
  • Easy task data extraction for analytics
  • A lot of custom options and automations via API

Cons

  • Search
  • Looking good
  • Keyboard-first navigation
  • Formatting and text-composing UI
  • Depends: if you compare Atlassian Jira to nothing, ROI is positive
  • if you compare Atlassian Jira to other solutions, I wouldn't pick Atlassian Jira for new projects
Search is still bad and cumbersome. UI seems antiquated and I can't navigate it w keyboard. Text editing options are very limited lacking the simple blocks I need (e.g. toggle lists).
Atlassian Jira is like an old person trying to look young. In the last couple of years it started succeeding somewhat but I'd still pick something from the alternatives if starting a new project.

When you already have some Atlassian products. When you're large enterprise with a dedicated team to manage all the bells and whistles of Jira. When you need something super-custom that's not possible to achieve on other more modern and sleeker tools.
