Use Cases and Deployment Scope

As an MSP we used Automox to automate patching and for asset inventory purposes.

Pros

Good 3rd party patching support

Cons

In our particular environments, Automox kept getting disconnected when the other RMMs (or similar) we tested didn't
In my experience, not MSP friendly
Upcharge for usage based agents
In my experience, missing basic functionalities such as running a policy when a new device is detected

Return on Investment

Automox worked well at the start when we had few endpoints to manage, sadly it now became a negative ROI tool for us since we overstayed thinking their MSP focus would get better.

In our experience, having to deal with agent disconnects, duplicates and other problems meant that any benefits from their better 3rd party patching management were getting outweighed by just trying to get the agents to a healthy state across the board.

Usability

Missing a lot of efficiencies between tenants to give a true "single console" experience, they need to listen closer to their partner's feedback.

Alternatives Considered

Datto RMM, Action1 and Level

We started off with Automox after moving off Datto due to the 3rd party patching support and a more "modern" feel. We now had to move away from Automox for a more functional tool.

The only reason I'd recommend it is if their main need is 3rd party patching automation that can't be covered by something else, and if they are able to avoid agent disconnects/duplicates efficiently due to the security stack that they may be using along Automox.
