Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We were replacing a series of old projectors in our school classrooms with smart displays. At the time, we settled on Smart Technologies Smart Boards. We partnered with AVI-SPL about six years ago to do our first round of replacements. We went on to do an additional 2 phases of our upgrade with them. We chose them because they were platinum resellers for Smart products.

Cons

Price for projects, they have a minimum that their projects must meet, and this is often higher than some other companies that handle AV
At times turn around on proposals can be slow

Return on Investment

The installation of the smartboards has greatly improved our ability to disseminate and engage our students in the learning process.
By having our Smart displays installed, we no longer have to replace about 50 projector bulbs on a semi-regular basis which has meant less waste and less mercury in the school.

Support Rating

We have only had the local office provide support in the way of helping us interact with the product manufacturer and performing an uninstall of a defective device, and installing the replacement.

I give this rating because when we were looking to do a major upgrade in our Auditorium, AVI-SPL didn't seem to have a full understanding of what we needed, and they also came in higher than the company we ultimately chose to go with. We did, however, have a good experience with the initial installation of our SmartBoard upgrades. Though during one instance when we reached out to them to help us with a Warranty claim and getting the device shipped back to Smart (smart charged for shipping), the event became a project, and we weren't overly happy with the cost to have them come and remove the old board and replace it with the new one.
