Overall Satisfaction with Barracuda Backup
It is being used for file level backup and SQL level database backup.
- The user interface is very easy to use
- The cloud storage is seemless
- The retention policies are simple to understand and use
- There have been some issues with downloading backed up files directly from the Barracuda cloud lately.
- The pricing seems too high, but all of the competing backup appliances have that same issue unless you can negotiate a good deal.
- The ease of use has made it more likely that backups are available when we need them and that we can restore them quickly.
- The recent issues with downloading directly from the cloud have hindered one particular project that required restoring files from the cloud to a site that doesn't have a Barracuda device on premise.
Barracuda is MUCH easier to set up and use then Unitrends. Unitrends does not offer direct download of backed up files from their cloud, while Barracuda does. Unitrends uses a non-standard and difficult to use implementation of retention/archiving. Unitrends' backup to Amazon S3 does not work as advertised, offers no bandwidth throttling, and requires frequent full backups to be transferred over the internet as opposed to using incremental forever. Barracuda did not offer as good of a price as Unitrends.
