My experience with Blackline.
Overall Satisfaction with BlackLine
I use it for booking (JV), task certification during monthly closing, and task/document upload mainly for audit purposes (account reconciliation, SOX control, etc.). I need to use all views, approver (for others' JV approval or task approval), and reviewer (process flow check), but I mainly use the preparer view.
Pros
- We can easily find many data in the "controlling overview" function.
- JV uploads if all requirements are met, but the validation is also beneficial when we have failed JV.
- To do lists.
Cons
- On the home page I can see Team Assignments usually first time not My assignments.
- JV posting is slow.
- Many error emails about failed JV with the same context.
- We receive emails about task certification. Can we receive the list of reconciliations monthly?
- Posted/prepared JVs cannot be deleted from the to-do list (there is only one extraordinary case, where we had a BL issue and the JV was booked but without a Document ID).
- Improved visibility.
- The possibility of making mistakes in accounting is reduced.
- Time-saving (eg. JV booking, Excel can be so many rows, easy to find data.)
In our company, BL supports many areas (SOX controls, audit, accounting). For so many units, I think it is very useful, especially for the management.
I do not have experience with similar product.
