Overall Satisfaction with Budgyt
We just started using it, for monthly re-forecasting and will use for our annual budget. Much easier to get input from department heads without sharing my bulky multi-co multi department spreadsheet. Users range from those only responsible for one expense, to managers responsible for multiple departments. With the GL import feature it allows users to see prior actual data without accessing our accounting program. Allows us to forecast how the year will end up compared to budget.
Pros
- Import Data
- Formulas and Excel Linking
- Reporting
- Onboarding
- Analysis
- Search
Cons
- Have approvals if using Balance Sheet module
- Be able to restrict payroll module access by department
- Visualizations by department without having to drill down
- Ability to reforecast easily, allow us to plan/react accordingly
- Time savings developing the budget compared to Excel
- Better/easier collaboration and input from managers
- Error free, better accuracy for payroll budget
Very well priced with everything we want, and more. Also looked at Xlerant/Budgetpak. Budgyt is very simple and way better than the clunky spreadsheet that could not be shared for fear of managers messing up formulas. It is even better than our accounting software for analyzing our actuals data. Highly recommend!

Using Budgyt
13 - Executive Director, Club Manager, Club events coordinator, Member Services manager, Catering manager. Sales and Marketing Manager, Human Resources Manager, financial controller, Auditor, Executive Chef, Food and Beverage Manager Facilities Manager, Outside services Manager, Marine Mechanic . All department managers have access and input to their respective areas to be able t budget and reforecast every month.
1 - It is primarily myself as Financial Controller that has full access, to add users, set permissions, create scenarios, import and export data, setup payroll, formulas, excel linking, training and encourage other managers to participate and enter monthly updates for the forecast. .I do the majority of the input for administrative type expenses.
- Solid Budgeting tool
- Monthly reforecasting
- Analysis of actuals data
- Comparing actuals to budget and forecasts
- Better reporting on actuals than accounting software
- Using search tool for actuals
- Using it as much as we can now, just need more manager input, which will happen as they get used to it.
- Possible consider the Visualizations module at some point - need to look at that again.
Evaluating Budgyt and Competitors
- Cloud Solutions
- Scalability
- Integration with Other Systems
- Ease of Use
Ease of use was important as other managers are not savvy in tech or finance but need to participate on the budget process. Needed a cloud solution anyone can access instead of a file on our server. It is scalable so we could add other departments if need be. It imports and exports data well to and form our accounting software.
I don't think I would do anything different. I had seen demos and reviews of other products. Budgyt was the best!
Budgyt Implementation
- Implemented in-house
Change management was minimal
- It was pretty straight forward
- Getting time managers to train them and get them to use it

No, not needed. Didn't know it was a thing.
After spending time implementing the Balance Sheet module, we decided Balance sheet was not a good fit for our organization, for reasons not related to the product itself. Of course we kept the Profit and Loss features. James kindly refunded our balance sheet fee and understood. I felt bad for all the time he spent, but was glad we could go back.
