Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE)

We use it for Wi-Fi authentication in a large higher education and healthcare environment. We do PEAP and EAP-TLS authentication.

Pros

  • Granular Policies
  • Uses variables in policies to avoid repeat policies
  • Integrates nicely wigh MS AD

Cons

  • Needs to support Easy-PSK
  • Captive Portals need to be more customizeable.
  • Helps enforce granular policy for 802.1X
  • Helps with complex sementation goals
Cisco works great for policy enforcement and EAP authentication, but it is not so good for BYOD onboarding, and PSK from a portal. We use CloudPATH Ruckus, SecureW2, and Splash Access for those purposes.

Works well for EAP authentication for Wireless LANs, not so well for captive portals, and no support for Easy PSK which is strange because Easy PSK is supported on the Cisco WLCs.
