Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Meraki MR Wireless Access Points
The main benefit we get from the Cisco Meraki MR Wireless Access Points is that we can just deploy one to each suite and manage it remotely. We can see whether there is an issue immediately, and can reconfigure basic things like access control and passwords without having to drive to each site. It's also helpful for gauging network usage, but it's still a bit pricey, both in terms of initial cost and yearly licensing, for what it is.
Pros
- Remote management
- Remote monitoring
- Packet capture
Cons
- Price
- Need a remote port, so I can effectively VPN in to diagnose issues without having an MX at each site
- Global alert settings, so I don't have to configure webhooks for each network
- Saved a lot of travel time
- Saved money on gateways and monitoring
- Working out licensing is a bit annoying, as I need to spend a lot of time working out what to renew
The main thing is it saved time not having to go to different sites to monitor and perform maintenance.
It's nice to have all the network devices across the organisation in the one dashboard, but I would prefer if I could SNMP other switches on the same network, even if they aren't Cisco, rather than have to syslog, then feed into a separate product.
Aruba was far more difficult to manage and troubleshoot.
