Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Meraki MX

At the moment we are using Ku. The device can act as both in Cisco SD-WAN, SD-WAN appliance, as well as a firewall. We use the appliance for both things. We use it to create an SD-WAN between our sites. And our sites are basically the two telescopes, one in Australia, one in South Africa, and then the regional head offices. And then we have a head office in Manchester.

Pros

  • It's very easy to deploy these devices because it's a cloud-based controlling controller that controls it. So able to, once the device has internet access, all you need to do basically is to look up the controller serial number and it'll basically find it. And once you add it to your network to automatically incorporate that device into your network and basically build the panels for the SD-WAN service.

Cons

  • Room for improvement. I think we also use the Meraki device as a fire haul. The one area where I think there's a room of improvement is when you do fire hauling with the device. Basically it doesn't do what you call walks, so it can't act as a web fire. In other words.
  • From a positive impact? Basically it allows us to set up shop very quickly. It allowed us to add sites to our network very quickly. From a negative perspective, I think the only thing is that I can see from a negative perspective is I have a preference to working with ACLI in terms of how I engage with the youth tool At the moment, the only way to actually engage with a tool is on a gui and sometimes what I'd actually like is more detailed information in terms of actual configuration that you'll actually get out of ACLI.
I think what's happened is because as an organization, in other words, we probably an incorporated organization of multiple countries. So two years ago, basically the contract was signed between the member countries and we had two years to set up something quickly. And what Meraki was very suited for us at that point in time as an interim solution to be able to set the network, a network up very quickly. While at some point we will start bringing more, in other words, the rest of the Cisco applying suit into the network, like replacing the Meraki with the Firepower fire homes. We need different kinds of more complicated services.
So what we've integrated with the product basically is there's the Meraki, which is basically the WAN concentrator slash file. Then you also get the Meraki MS range, which is the switches basically provides land ports to your devices, also controlled by the Meraki cloud. And then the other devices, Meraki devices that we've added to this is the Meraki to wifi, the wifi access points as well as the canvas.
From a scalability perspective. So it depends on how much bandwidth you require. And so basically what you have, you have a range of products in the Cisco Meraki MX Suite from a small device like MX63 or something like that, up to something like MX 450, which is the more larger for larger sites. So from a scalability perspective, it's like you can choose the right product for it's function as you ramp up your refinements.
