Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Secure Firewall
We used this model as a remote access vpn gateway. We purchased 2 boxes and configured them in HA. We configured Anyconnect setup with radius authentication. We integrated it with Cisco ISE for authorization and visibility. We purchased a 3 year term based license.
Pros
- State-full Firewalling
- IPS
- NAT
- IPSec Site to Site vpns (Policy based and VTI)
- Remote Access VPN (Anyconnect or Secure VPN)
Cons
- Time-Based remote access vpn
- Local logging
- Faster deployments using FMC
- Cisco Hardware is quite stable
- Cisco firewall is feature-rich
- Cisco TAC support is quite helpful when issues happen
We saw a noticeable drop in security incidents and malware attempts after enabling IPS threat detection.
Having everything managed from a single dashboard made our daily work much easier, and automated alerts shortened the time needed to respond to issues.
Stability improved overall — fewer outages, better uptime, and fewer end-user complaints.

You can send logs either to FMC (Management Center) or to an external SIEM platform. FMC also includes a dedicated VPN troubleshooting dashboard. For deeper analysis, FTD supports PCAP captures directly through the GUI or CLI.
