Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Secure Firewall
We use them to segment network zones in our data center. They are also used at our internet edge to secure the perimeter of our network. At the campus networks they are used to zone off untrusted devices to control access to our private networks.
Pros
- Layer 3 and 4 access controls
- Upgrade management is simple through FMC
- Throughput
Cons
- QA for code release still need improvement
- TAC support needs improvement
- Has been great at centralizing access control at the campus
- Has provided great visibility into traffic flows in the data center
Performance with the inspection feature has been very good. We've only experienced issues with certain traffic types particularly with storage transfer protocols so the inspection would have to be bypassed.
We use VPN for remote access to our environment as well as business to business connectivity. For log management and analytics we send that data to our Splunk implementation to correlate this data when has been very useful in identifying issues.
The other products do well with simplifying some of the tasks such as rule creation where it would create rules based on a zone.
