Overall Satisfaction with Cohesity DataProtect

We are currently using Cohesity for our on-prem backups, and backup as a service for all our M365/O365 applications. Our previous vendor was not able to complete all backups within a 24 hour time period, this caused items to miss backup schedules. A second appliance was added to try and help this issue, and it did for a brief period, then it was an issue again. Instead of adding a 3rd appliance we started shopping around for a new product.

  • Currently have no issues with the product
  • If I had to come up with one item, I do have to restore VM's to physical hardware from time to time for deployment testing. I have to use a 3rd party product to deploy a backup to a bare-metal item. This would be a nice feature if it was native to Cohesity.
  • I wish I would have heard of Cohesity years ago and not about 3 years ago. I could have used them about 10 years ago.
  • The ROI on Cohesity for us was less than a year.
  • Cohesity has give many hours back to my work day each and every week.
  • The Immutable File System give me comfort in knowing that my data is safe
Cohesity provided more features out of the box and not all they extra licensing to enable. The performance that Cohesity was able to provide was the main reason for our decision to change our backup solution to a new product instead of increasing our foot print with our previous backup solution.

Cohesity has been awesome. The performance (speed) that it has been able to provide has actually given me back time every month. I have to test my backups monthly, and the Cloning process that Cohesity has available from it's backup has given me days back each month. It just a few minutes I can have VMs restored for testing and documentation. This took a couple days with the previous vendor.

Evaluating Cohesity DataProtect and Competitors

Yes - We replaced our Quest Rapid Recovery backup solution with Cohesity DataProtect. It got to the point that Quest was not able to keep-up with our needs. Instead of putting more into Quest Rapid Recovery as our backup solution, we started looking for a new replacement. We looked at a few different vendors and Cohesity was the one that impressed us the most.

We went with Cohesity and have never looked back.

Speed and Security were the two main factors for us that Cohesity provided better than the backup solutions from other vendors. The backup performance is great, but the "Clone" process for a restore is even better. This time saving features saves me hours each week in my busy schedule. For Security, the Immutable File System is a great comfort and "peace of mind."
Since we purchased Cohesity originally they have added "New Features" that have been of interest to us. The one thing I would change is that I would have added these items to the original evaluation, and Cohesity would have left the other vendors "on the dust." The other vendors have not been able to keep up.
