Overall Satisfaction with Concur Travel and Expense

Concur Travel and Expense is a fantastic tool to not only book your travel but also to run expenses through. It gives easy options for flights, knows your preferred vendors for flights, hotels, car rental companies, etc. I've not only implemented this product for many companies but also have been a user for 15 years.

While the company I work for currently uses another product from our corporate card carrier for expenses, the tool from SAP/Concur is actually far superior simply due to its ease of use, which is not something i'd typically associate with an SAP product, as they're known for their complexity and steep learning curve.

Pros

  • Easy travel booking
  • Much faster booking confirmation than any other site I've worked with
  • Ease to customize travel business rules

Cons

  • SAP Tax--The product isn't worth more per seat because SAP's name is on it.
  • Override codes for manager approval
  • Introduction of travel cost limits before an approval is triggered
  • We have seen a decrease in travel spending overall in three years
  • Easy learning curve
  • Mobile scanning is amazing for expense reporting
  • Abacus and by Emburse
Concur Travel and Expense is the gold standard for this type of solution. We did look at Abacus, but as a current SAP customer, we were given a significant discount to go with this product (even though it was still more costly than Abacus). Honestly, it came down to our company's preference for SAP.
SAP is our ERP system, which is tied into Concur Travel and Expense. Concur Travel and Expense hooks into an API on our system, and off we go. It has made life easy for those of us who help manage the SAP systems.
The biggest boon for us has been the ROI. The second would be the ease of contact tracing for COVID, which lightens our company's legal exposure.
Our users are busy and don't have time to spend hours on travel and expenses. Concur Travel and Expense really makes the expense and travel easy. It's never a pleasure to do these items, but Concur Travel and Expense at least makes it easy.
Concur Travel and Expense is amazing for companies wanting to get a true handle on their travel spending, especially in the era of COVID where it can also be used as a contract tracing mechanism.

Where the product could be better:
  1. As of December 2020--You cannot set a budget for travel before invoking an approver. In my case, I travel all the time, and my approver is an EVP. For this use case, I need a round-trip flight from Minneapolis to El Paso. The cost is $370 in total. There should be a limit set so that anything under $500 is automatically approved.
  2. SAP Tax--A seat of the software is not automatically worth more due to SAP's name being on it.
