Overall Satisfaction with DraftSight

DraftSight is being used as a supplement to SOLIDWORKS, as well as a tool for highly technical patent illustrations. Currently, we have about 3 consistent users.
  • Less expensive than AutoCAD.
  • Macro development in the pro license.
  • 2D artwork manipulation.
  • The 2019 version seems to hangup/crash more often than 2018.
  • The new image tracer would be particularly helpful for us, but it is not quite to the level where it is useful for our application.
  • It is particularly annoying when tracing over images that EntitySnaps goes only to the edges. In 2017 and before, where you clicked in the image is where the key point was placed, even with EntitySnaps activated.
  • DraftSight saves about $4,000 per year compared to AutoCAD.
  • The macros we have developed in DraftSight save us hundreds of hours of menial tasks per year.
We have used AutoCAD in the past, and have concluded that DraftSight provides a comparable product for a much better value.
It is well suited where separating the 2D drawings from the 3D CAD is necessary. The non-parametric entities work towards our advantage.
