Overall Satisfaction with DraftSight

I use it to support my construction projects for general lay-out, delivering as-builts, compatibilizing drawings. I don't have the needs of a heavy user but most of the tools that I need on a day-to-day basis I find on DraftSight, the commands and overall interface are familiar to any user experienced with the industry-standard tools. I use the software mostly as an individual and I haven't tried any collaborative features (if available) of the software.
  • Familiar interface.
  • Compatibility with CAD files generated on other software.
  • General basic CAD tools.
  • Great cost x benefit.
  • Block editing is very basic (Including dynamic blocks).
  • Lack of parametric constraints (similar to SOLIDWORKS constraints).
  • Not many perceived changes from the version that used to be free.
  • Expedited Layout.
  • Improved communication with project consultants.
  • Helped with planning activities on the construction schedule.
DraftSight attracted me for being the best free alternative when I've started using. More robust tools like AutoCAD, Vectorworks, SOLIDWORKS have more features, but since I'm not a hardcore user anymore, DraftSight definitely fulfills my needs. Now that it is paid, it is still a cheap solution compared to other CAD software and it definitely pays itself with use.
Overall I'm very happy with my DraftSight experience, the software is stable, fast and I've never experienced any major issues. I'd definitely recommend the tool for someone that needs a reliable CAD package with all the basic functions. I haven't used it collaboratively or for complex solid/3D-modelling, so I wouldn't know how well it does that.
