Overall Satisfaction with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT

Financial Edge NXT is a full-featured business accounting system built for nonprofits. We use it for all of our finance-related tracking, including employee reimbursement, payroll, AR/AP, expense tracking, credit card management, all of our reporting, etc.
  • Fully customized, multi-layered account number setup, so that every line represents exactly what you want to track.
  • Ledger-based so you have total control over every transaction.
  • Web-based user interface is very user-friendly and intuitive.
  • Excellent customer service and training resources.
  • User-friendly interface.
  • It's a big, complex system. There are many moving parts, and as a result, sometimes it's hard to figure where you went wrong when something doesn't look like it should.
  • There is a learning curve before you will feel fully comfortable. I feel as though I am still learning after five years using the system.
  • Simplified and streamlined our accounting processes.
  • Allows better Board and auditor oversight through reporting and view-only logins.

Excellent capacity to maintain regulatory compliance. Easy to access and customize reporting, in particular. Internal controls are easy to implement, and the security is top-notch.
We have gone from one person being familiar with all of our financial records to several. More importantly, we now have decision-makers engaging fully with our financial information, which is the whole purpose of producing financials for a nonprofit -- to drive good, solid decisions.
FENXT was our first choice when we switched from QB Desktop. QB no longer met our needs because its ability to accommodate fund accounting is very limited, as is its budgeting module. We use QBO for a subsidiary, but it has the same top-level limitations. We evaluated Sage, Aplos, and a couple of other integrated solutions, but found FENXT was the best-integrated solution for us because of its flexibility and ability to customize, plus we spoke to other users who raved about the training and support from Blackbaud, the parent company.

FENXT is very well-suited for organizations with complex or extensive financial structures. While the system was originally designed for organizations with accounting departments, my org has one person in Finance and this system is still very appropriate. If your finances are easily handled by QuickBooks and your auditor does not need information your QuickBooks can't provide, you don't need FENXT. However, if you've outgrown the limited nonprofit capabilities of QB, FENXT is the right choice because of its flexibility and customizability.

FE serves all of our accounting/finance functions and then some. We are very happy with it, and are constantly finding ways to expand our use of it.

Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT Support

Excellent support given by people who fully understand the system and your question. Multiple channels to access support, and an easy-to-use tracking system for support requests. No language barriers, and people unafraid to admit they don't know the answer. If followup is needed, they get back to me when they say they will, and they keep after a problem until it's resolved. I LOVE BLACKBAUD's SUPPORT!

Yes - Absolutely. I seem to have a gift for finding bugs about every 6-9 months, and they are always responsive. They research the problem, keep me updated, and follow up until it's resolved, every time. I hear back from someone very day if the problem spans multiple days, and if there is something they need to do to "make it right", they don't hesitate to do what is needed. I am very happy with how they handle bugs.
Every time I reach out to them, Blackbaud provides me with exceptional support. As we worked through our first audit with a new firm, support repeatedly helped us adjust our reporting, find and change errors, repair an account that was displaying incorrectly in a report, and in general made the whole experience much more pleasant than it could have been without their support.
