Database monitoring powerhouse
Overall Satisfaction with Foglight
For the past 5 years, Foglight has been used across several teams in our organization, to include primarily our Infrastructure and Operations department and Business Applications teams. Only recently have we started to migrate away from Foglight for more advanced tools in the APM space. At the moment, we still heavily rely on Foglight for Database monitoring and management. It excels at Database monitoring. We have not found another tool that can compete with that functionality.
Pros
- Database monitoring
- Database management suite
- Customization (both monitors and dashboards)
Cons
- GUI interface is difficult to navigate
- No APM capabilities. They left this space about a year ago
- We have had issues with the GUI response times. On a regular basis, the interface can take several minutes to refresh
- For the past 5 years, we heavily leveraged their application synthetic capabilities which caught several outages to our online presence before our users did or as they did, saving us valuable time and money to get back up and running.
- Their ability to deep dive into databases has helped the rollout of our new software, speeding up the time to market. We have been able to identify problems with our code in the staging and development tiers, ensuring we release better, more stable software to our customers.
- AppDynamics, Dynatrace, New Relic, ScienceLogic, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager and SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor
We selected Foglight almost 6 years ago for its advancements in the APM space, moving toward a single pane of glass and their SaaS development. They have since abandoned the APM and SaaS offerings to focus solely on Database and Compute monitoring. This is why we are migrating 90% of our monitoring needs to a new tool.
