Freckle by Renaissance - Great for Elementary Students
Overall Satisfaction with Freckle by Renaissance
Freckle is being utilized as supplemental support for our FAP math class and with our 6th grade math lab class. It is being used by students who are 3 or more grade levels below their peers. Students in both programs spend 30 minutes or more on Freckle a day.
Pros
- Allows students to practice math facts
- Provides challenging problems
- Allows students to track their growth
- Incentives for learning
- Online and Printable Resources
Cons
- Incentives for Middle School Students
- Dashboard for Middle School Students
- Characters for Older Students
- Positive: Students practicing math daily
- Positive: Students showing growth in math proficiency
- Negative: Middle-school students find it boring
I think that Freckle is a great supplemental support for students who are working at a K - 3 grade equivalency. The content is better than Moby Max, IXL, and FlashtoPass. However, freckle is very elementary with the look, sounds, incentives, and avatars. It is difficult to get many of our middle school students to "buy-in" to using the program. The content on the site is great. Teachers can pinpoint skills that students need to master. They can also assign problems by domain or specific standards.
