Overall Satisfaction with Google Cloud Speech-to-Text

We use it as an assistant while transcribing our customer interviews into text, which helps us save time and energy on transcriptions and allows us to focus more on complex and interesting tasks. We have also tried using the text-to-speech function to add audio to our interfaces and we found it very convenient.

Pros

  • Transcribe speech into text
  • Transcribe text into speech
  • Share transcriptions among the team members

Cons

  • It is very expensive when you start work with big files
  • It has some troubles with accents
  • Doesn't work good when some people speak simultaneously
  • It reduced our budget for assistants who transcribed files manually
  • It speeds up the process, because we can have a transcriptions straight after the interviews
  • It increased accuracy, because AI makes the transcriptions for every second, and you can find the words which were said at specific time.
It is usable and understandable, but to implement Google Cloud Speech-to-Text and integrate it with other apps you actually need a technical person. Or you must be technically sophisticated. It is not usable for people who needs very simple interfaces, but if you work in big company, the tool is easy enough to work with.
I personally didn't try to integrate speech recognition into applications, but it impacts drastically to my UX process, because I don't afraid to conduct multiple interviews, since I will not have to transcribe them manually. It changes the whole process and gives me more time to work with analytics and prototyping.
Descript is definetly less accurate than Google Cloud tool, while Google Cloud Speech-to-Text does have some troubles with overlapping and background noises, it still performs better than Descript. However Descript has some video editing functions which are not available in Google Cloud Speech-to-Text. And when it comes to collaboration, it seems that in Descript it is slightly more convenient.

Yes

Would you buy Google Cloud Speech-to-Text again?

Yes

Google Cloud Speech-to-Text works well in situations where you have audio files and need to quickly extract information from them, convert it into text, and share it with your colleagues. I conduct interviews with customers where they share their experiences, and it's very convenient to quickly distribute the information to my team without making them watch the videos or listen to the audio files.
