Use Cases and Deployment Scope

GoToMyPC allows me and my staff to work from other locations. We have used it to work from home or when traveling. It was especially helpful during COVID when we were forbidden from physically working at the office. I have used GoToMyPC to retrieve files and work from home when sick or even during snowstorms.

Pros and Cons

You have access to all the programs on the office PC as if you were sitting right there.
It makes it easy to retrieve files to work on remotely and then compare the files to those on your remote PC.
It is easy and quick to "dial" in.
The security level is reassuring.

it is more expensive than other remote software.
It resizes your desktop font every time you dial in and has to be manually changed back after the completion of the session.
When dialing in GoToMyPC sometimes stalls and has to be refreshed to continue.

Return on Investment

I can continue working and earning revenue while at home, even if sick or during snowstorms or other weather events that restrict traveling.
I can retrieve digital files when I forget to bring a hard or digital copy and save travel time returning to the office, which for me is at least a 45-minute round trip.
I can work on matters which require unexpected immediate attention when away from the office.
I have been able to respond to new clients when away from the office.

Alternatives Considered

I have used some other programs that only allowed file retrieval, but I couldn't use some of the files because you had to have the program on the remote computer and, therefore, had limited use. I also tried using Windows remote capability but ran into issues that made it difficult for a non-IT person to easily deal with.

Likelihood to Recommend

I think GoToMyPC is well-suited for any scenario I have encountered, although I only have experience using it in a small firm setting. Otherwise, for working from home and traveling or file retrieval, it has proved more than adequate. I have not encountered a scenario that I thought was less than appropriate.
