Overall Satisfaction with Gumlet

I had a Vimeo subscription for over 10 years and have been
wishing to switch to another service. Vimeo was too costly for the small amount
of bandwidth I was using with the service.

I used Vimeo, and now Gumlet, to host and stream my original
short film videos and other creative video media for collaborating with editors
or other creators, at times to submit to film festivals, and to able to show
off my work in various contexts.

I had to pay for a Vimeo plan to get enough storage
capability, be able to set passwords, to be able to have multiple edits and
multiple videos up at the same time, etc. even though the resulting traffic in
the end was comparatively very low. I also need this capability all year round.
Gumlet can do and solve all this for me and even gives me access to features I
never had with my Vimeo-Plan, e.g. geo-blocking countries from accessing my videos.

I purchased a lifetime deal, because it appears to be very
good value for me. I will no longer have to pay a monthly fee for my professional
video hosting / streaming needs.

Pros

  • Speedy transcoding, hosting, and streaming of my film media
  • Privacy Features (Passwords, private, unlisted, geo-blocking of select countries, etc.)
  • Automated AI subtitling / transcription of my content for no additional fee
  • Extensive Analytics, reports about my content
  • Additionally offers direct download links for my content
  • Attractive Player customization, hide Gumlet logo if so wanted, change highlight color of the player, upload own logo
  • Very attractive value proposition with the current special lifetime deal

Cons

  • The UI ranges from quite nice to impressive, but could in some select ways be improved further. As they are currently working on it and releasing improvements frequently, I think it is already very good for where they are in the process.
  • Similarly, the current Video Library and playlist system are already very good and completely sufficient for my needs, but I would appreciate the inclusion/return of an additional folder system for organizing my videos.
  • This is also just a nice-to-have and had no adverse effect on my usage of and productivity in relation to the platform, but the English grammar / conciseness of the English descriptions, tooltips, etc. could be further improved. This is more of an "optical" issue, rather than a workflow/productivity issue.
  • It would be great if they added an optional "Privacy" column to the list of videos, displaying the privacy status of each video in the video library (e.g. unlisted, password, public, private, etc.).
  • This lifetime deal plan will - over time - lead to significant savings for my use-case, since i do not have to keep paying monthly fees as I had to with Vimeo.
  • I enjoy features now that I did not have before with my old Vimeo plan (e.g. geo-blocking access to my content by country). This leads to higher flexibility in leveraging my content in various scenarios and enhances my technical business capabilities.
I had to learn the in and outs of the system for a little bit, but after just one day, everything makes sense to me so far and works well and smoothly.
I am subtracting one point, since the UI could be further improved, for example with a folder system. However, they are actively working on UI improvements and releasing new features and changes.
I was a Vimeo subscriber for over 10 years, and - finally - Gumlet seems to be a fine replacement. The lifetime deal makes it very attractive to me, which is why I switched over from Vimeo. Google Drive and YouTube can deliver some of the features I need, but not all (player customization, no ads, etc.). Gumlet does everything I need so far and even offers some improvements over my old Vimeo plan (e.g. geoblocking).

Do you think Gumlet delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Gumlet's feature set?

Yes

Did Gumlet live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Gumlet go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Gumlet again?

Yes

I have been looking for a Vimeo alternative for a long time and so far, Gumlet has been working great for my use-case: transcoding, hosting and streaming my original film media and password-protecting them if needed. And all this without ads and with a customizable player, which can even hide the Gumlet logo if wanted. The lifetime deal offers incredible value for my specific situation. I need flexibility and certain features for the long-term, but effectively do not need a lot of monthly bandwidth and wanted to keep my running costs low. So far, I have been very happy with the system, not a single serious complaint or issue from my side. Hopefully they will continue to improve and maintain the product as enthusiastically, as they are doing now.
