Overall Satisfaction with Kofax Power PDF

Kofax Power PDF is our standard pdf application used in the creation, conversion, and editing of pdf files. The software is used to create pdf files and convert files from alternate file types (for example MSOffice, jpeg, and other text files by print). The software is also used to assist in the editing of existing pdf files by extracting and modifying content, and applying security to files as needed.
  • File conversion MSOffice, picture files and text files to PDF format
  • File editing and modification via text editing and insertion of additional content
  • Application of security rights to files
  • Menu configuration is not very intuitive
  • The software had limited capacity to deal with large (> 50MB) files when editing, and is prone to crashing and glitches.
  • Support for the software is not as efficient or immediately helpful
  • Cost savings, especially relative to Adobe costs
  • Fluctuating efficiency according to file size
  • Easy administration and assistance of active users
It is easy to use but the menu is not laid out in a very intuitive manner. The product itself is not complicated, however, the editing and manipulation of files is typically a multi-step process. The required options are not laid out in an inefficient manner, for example, content redaction is a 3 step process of setting properties, marking areas for redaction then applying said redactions. The options to complete this process are not laid out in sequential order. Also, training materials are not in-depth.
The biggest benefit provided by Kofax over the other products evaluated is cost. Kofax can be acquired at over 50% less (at an enterprise level) than Adobe Acrobat DC, while it doesn't have all of the options available within Adobe it contains all of the most commonly applicable pdf features.
Customer support for Kofax PDF is not as helpful as I would like. Typically support is provided by L1 technicians and only via email correspondence. It is not easy to get call-in support. In the event that your issue requires escalation to L2 or higher, support is not provided quickly. Given the fact that it is a higher-level issue, one would assume that support would be more forthcoming but that is not the case.

The most valuable options provided by Kofax are:
- File editing, commenting
- Security features to protect file content and restrict user interaction
- File conversion options are also successful with regards to MS Word, Outlook and PowerPoint (not as efficient with Excel) and also with image files (jpeg, etc).
When editing legal documents it is necessary to extract and insert content from various source files for the creation of new documents. Kofax Power PDF allows for the completion of this task very easily with a simple interface allowing for the integration using multiple different source file types. This functionality is less successful as the file size increases. The editing of large files is slowed considerably making the process not as efficient. To combat this it becomes necessary to split files into smaller sizes and save them after each individual action to protect against the loss of file edits.
