The Strong Power of Power PDF
Overall Satisfaction with Kofax Power PDF (formerly Nuance)
I use it for my office and personal document development and processing. I have recommended it to a few others at my university and within my department. It helps me be able to work easily with forms produced on other .pdf programs and I am able to store the majority of my documents in this format by using its strong capabilities to convert other software outputs to the pdf format.
Pros
- Multitude of conversion capabilities back and forth between pdf and other software formats.
- The ability to make many kinds of edits to pdf documents; both those created by this program or other pdf software.
- I particularly like its excellent rate of 'effective' conversions of other document types.
- Created computer files from my previously 'paper only' stored documents.
Cons
- I would like to see improved ability to edit 'graphic' images within my scanned documents.
- I would like to have an even more enhanced ability to add notes or annotations to graphic areas of documents.
- Significant progress has been made to the OCR capability of the software, but more would be helpful.
- I think it has helped me be more efficient, although I have not 'objectively measured' this.
- I have been able to assist my colleagues in developing forms or 'flyer' type material at significant cost savings to them.
Well, I have been using it for a number of years now, but at the beginning I found it mostly intuitive. With the online manuals and ways to get support, I have always found a way to do what I expected with the program. This is in contrast to some other products that are standalone type, where it is often difficult to find assistance.
I have generally found Power PDF to be easier to learn how to use, and more powerful in its capabilities, then either of the programs listed above. So, I have stuck with it over time. Because the program has been steadily improved over time, it has continued to satisfy my needs as I have gradually relied on it in more sophisticated ways coincident with my learning.

PDF reading and editing of documents. Search capabilities. Editing mostly text based documents. Putting together multiple documents into one. When I wish to extract a section of document, it seamlessly maintains its formatting characteristics, which is very useful in my teaching. I can copy a graphic from an article, paste it to a ppt slide within a presentation, add citations and attributions easily. This is very useful in teaching to be able to amalgamate materials from a variety of sources. Avoids manual 'cutting and pasting,' scanning multiple sources physically to get them into one document, etc.
