Power PDF Advanced

Overall Satisfaction with Kofax Power PDF (formerly Nuance)

Only used in my department. It is used as a more cost effective alternative to the Adobe Acrobat subscription model. We need the ability to convert PDFs to usable formats such as Excel & Word. We also need to create PDFs of large documents such as monthly and quarterly financial statements.
  • Converts to other formats - particularly MS Office products.
  • Good results with OCR to make static documents selectable and searchable.
  • Allows you to create single documents from multiple sources and rearrange documents in the order you need.
  • Ability to "queue" multiple PDFs as you print/create them and then combine into a single document WITHOUT having to save each individual PDF before the combine.
  • The security options are a little complicated.
  • Although it looks very powerful, I'm not really sure how to fully take advantage of the compression options.
  • Significant cost savings.
  • Shorter learning curve.
  • Large variety of powerful features included for a less expensive product.
The addition of the MS Office-like "ribbon" interface was a major improvement over earlier versions of the product. Since most end-users are familiar with this interface, it takes less time to get used to this product. Many users who are used to just "creating" PDF documents are now able to explore new features making them more productive.
Compared to Acrobat:
  • Much more cost effective.
  • Does not require a subscription.
  • Much more feature-rich at this price point.

Compared to PDFCreator (PDFForge):
  • The most significant advantage of PDFCreator (which we use in conjunction with PPDF) is the ability to queue documents on the fly as you print them to PDF and then combine and rearrange without having to save the individual PDF files first.
  • PDFCreator is FREE (open source).
Whenever I have an issue, I always get a very quick response from support. They have always resolved my concerns and are even willing to help me understand features that are not completely explained in the Help system. I have had numerous questions about the licensing model and switching from older (Nuance) versions of the product. The sales team has been generous with discounts on upgrades.
