Overall Satisfaction with Kofax Power PDF (formerly Nuance)
I use Kofax Power PDF Advanced to manage medical information contained in a variety of documents from health institutions. The information has to be stored securely and I can use the security functionality to achieve that. I use it personally - I am not aware of other members of our organisation using it. I can create and manage PDFs for multiple purposes and I can create electronically completable and secure forms.
- It is very easy to use either password or certificate security in order to lock PDFs to only those who need to read them.
- Creating and completing forms is well-implemented.
- Document assembly, splitting and combining is easy to do and intuitive.
- Conversion of PDFs to MS Office files works well and enables things like table extraction.
- Extracting tables is easier if the PDF is converted to a MS Word document first. This could be better implemented in Power PDF.
- I'd like to be able to zoom documents with a scroll wheel.
- Scanner support is as awkward, clunky and error-prone as Kofax PaperPort. Power PDF refuses to access one of my scanners at all.
- I am in a unique role within my organisation and Power PDF has enabled me to make a lot of time savings.
- I can use Power PDF for document security in a much more efficient way than the organisation has been able to previously.
Power PDF looks and feels like a modern Windows 10 application. The ribbons, menus and mouse functionality are all standard, so it is very easy to open up and just use. The most important functionality for me is always at the forefront of the application. There is a huge amount of customisation that can make it appropriate to my work environment - for instance out of the box for me it looked too much like MS Word, so changing the appearance made it more easily distinguishable. It's as easy to use and any Windows 10 application.
- Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and Kofax PaperPort (formerly Nuance)
I previously used Adobe Acrobat version 9, which is quite old and outdated now. Power PDF was cheaper than upgrading to the latest Acrobat and is just as functional. It is much easier to use than version 9 was. Adobe Reader is used by most of my colleagues but despite being free lacks any meaningful functionality for managing PDFs. Kofax PaperPort is all about document storage but is a very poor upgrade from the last Nuance version. Power PDF has significantly more functionality that PaperPort (although has the same poor implementation of scanner support). Power PDF plus the latest Wondows Explorer almost negates the need for PaperPort now.
