Overall Satisfaction with Marketo

Marketo is used both internally for our companies marketing as well as externally by our clients for their marketing efforts. Internally our email production and marketing departments use Marketo. Marketo and their robust APIs has enabled our email team to get rid of many custom built one off solutions and to onboard existing and new clients to Marketo.
  • Marketo makes content creation easy. Users unfamiliar with HTML/CSS can build emails with a drag-and-drop editor. Email versioning is a great feature too that has saved me from myself time and time again.
  • Easily build triggered & automated messages based on lead information, actions and more.
  • Marketo customer support is terrible.
  • Online training portal is dated and could be much more engaging/interactive. Most of the free training offered through Marketo are just low quality pre-recorded videos. Additional video topics and more interactivity would be ideal.
  • Increased employee efficiency
  • Enables us to provide our customers with better service and reporting
Marketo's front-end is much quicker and more reliable then Exact Target. At my past company we had many user interface issues and browser compatibility issues with each new Exact Target release. With Marketo, I don't have to worry about these interface issues and in the event an issue does occur my work is auto-saved so I do not have to worry about my work being lost.

However, ExactTarget enterprise level support is astronomically better then Marketo support. I've seen Marketo support take over a week to answer simple questions in tickets.

At my current company we use Marketo because it is reliable, easy to use and cost effective.
Marketo is a great tool for any campaign involving automation. I've used many different automation and email tools and I felt that learning Marketo was pretty painless in comparison to many other tools.

Getting your Marketo instance setup can take a lot of time and effort. That being said, if all you are doing is simple campaigns and one off email blasts you can probably find a more appropriate tool. Additionally, if you will be needing support fairly regularly I would steer away as Marketo support is pretty bad.
