Overall Satisfaction with Meltwater

Meltwater has definitely grown as a service provider, providing more features than it has in the past. I have been able to link certain notifications directly to a teams channel to push out alerts faster without having to use manual time to disseminate information. From Meltwaters explore function, I was able to quickly pick up on activity from a competitor that showed they were attempting to increase their online reputation score. Meltwater also notified me of an increase in media mentions (which I had noticed before, and decided to test if Meltwater would also pick up on it), and it was a good indication that the competitor is trying to increase interest with potential investors. The service REPs were helpful, but the newsletter function is still giving me some issues. If I can get this sorted out, then my ranking would be higher of the overall tool.

Pros

  • Picking up on media mentions
  • Capturing competitor commercials
  • Spike detection

Cons

  • Newsletter feature
  • Exporting information from the explore screen in a readable format rather than raw data in excel
  • Faster access to data
I no longer have access to videos since my tv eyes went away though meltwater said they wouldn’t have a service interruption. It’s been months. This has really taken away from the benefit of the platform
Meltwater does not limit competitive searches in the same way that Crayon and Klue do. Meltwater also captures different sources of information than aggregation tools. While Meltwater doesn’t provide access to expert reports like a different platform that I rely on for deep dives, Meltwater is particularly effective in picking up online chatter and activity from competitors that other tools lack. I was able to identify a competitor manipulating their [...] reviews solely due to Meltwater. Also, the ability to have an enterprise license with 20+ seats is nice.

The functionality with radio and tv mentions really needs to be fixed though.

Do you think Meltwater delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Meltwater's feature set?

No

Did Meltwater live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Meltwater go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Meltwater again?

Yes

The tool is great for finding specific ads from competitors and getting an estimate of how far the reach is for the audience. There’s also a feature where you can sort news articles based on relevance. Combining a Boolean search with their advance search feature isn’t possible, but now that you don’t have to do strictly Boolean searches, it is a lot easier to set up searches for yourself. They do have training resources to teach Boolean, however I don’t have much spare time to take the courses. This limits my ability to create effective searches in the tool. I have also attempted to send newsletters from a Meltwater email, and the emails will not come through to my email. I am unsure if this issue is a Meltwater issue or an issue with my work’s security settings.

Using Meltwater

20 - Communications and public relations. Competitive intelligence. Others.
I reach out to the vendor for help
  • Crisis management
  • Public relations
  • Competitive intelligence
Not my decision, and it works well enough for communications and public relations. Competitive intelligence leverages other tools to fill the gaps

Evaluating Meltwater and Competitors

  • Ease of Use
  • Other
Reliability and price
I would look at whether the big push for AI is actually adding to the service or taking away from the service. I would also look for news letter features and access to tv clips and radio ads. More integration with social media would be ideal

Meltwater Implementation

Change management was minimal - None
  • Was not part of this

Meltwater Support

The support for the platform is one of the best I’ve experienced. I’ve had a vendor help me and build complex searches to really reduce noise in my Boolean searches. She then helped me develop the newsletter that helps keep us informed on various topics
ProsCons
Good followup
Knowledgeable team
Problems get solved

Support cares about my success
Quick Initial Response
Difficult to get immediate help
Unsure but I don’t believe so
Yes - I was waiting on the fix after my tv eyes no longer worked with the meltwater platform but never saw a fix come through
I’ve already provided this answer but again, the point of contact at meltwater gave me personal attention and care, and helped monitor a report so we could refine it and build a better product

Using Meltwater

Requires technical support
Not well integrated
