Overall Satisfaction with Memsource

I use Memsource for translation/editing of various kinds of content mainly from English to Japanese, such as Web site, e-learning, user guides, marketing materials, etc.
  • Display of matching TM data..
  • Indication of repetitions and ability to specify as exception.
  • Display of glossary terms.
  • Easy-to-use search function.
  • In the case of EN to JA translation, we enter text and then convert it to get the correct final text (word or phrase) which uses correct Chinese character(s), as there are often multiple Chinese characters with the same reading but different meanings. When those conversion options are displayed, it is usually possible to change our selection among them by hitting the Tab key, but in Memsource, hitting the Tab key makes us leave the text conversion and move to the source segment, so we must make sure to use arrow keys to choose the right conversion option when using Memsource.
  • When there are tag elements used in the source text, the tags must exist in the target text of course, but the tag order also must be the same. The tags cannot be moved around in the segment, which causes problems in the case of the Japanese language, because the word order differs between EN and JA.
  • In the Japanese language, Italics are basically not used, so there must be no texts between the tags which specify Italic font. But then the segment cannot be confirmed and the job status cannot be changed to "Complete".
  • I'm fond of the search function which is quite easy to use.
  • User interface as a whole which looks simple and clear.
  • Preview function is very helpful.
  • Its easy-to-use functions increase productivity, thus bring us positive impact overall.
I also use Wordbee, but the thing I don't like it most about it is that the number of segments you can display at a time is limited to 100 and you must move around many pages if the job size is large. I use SDL Trados Studio as well, but not cloud-based, so not really comparable, although I'm quite used to using it.

Do you think Phrase Localization Platform delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Phrase Localization Platform's feature set?

Yes

Did Phrase Localization Platform live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Phrase Localization Platform go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Phrase Localization Platform again?

Yes

Memsource is easy to use and I like using it for any type of translation work, but when the source texts contain tags, they tend to generate issues that cannot be solved due to the difference in characteristics between source and target languages, so they bring me headaches. But you cannot know if the source texts contain tags until you open the file and take a look at the contents...
