Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Entra ID
Entra ID is really user access management or group management. We've been using it for identity access, setting up. I'm trying to think of the international access exemptions. Lots of other stuff.
Pros
- User management, I mean it's basically active directory from what I'm used to from way back in the day. Creating, creating and modifying users is especially easy now that we're not, we used to be in a hybrid environment, which kind of made things a pain in the butt. It was like using the old school version and the new version at the same time. But now we're just on Entra ID, which is really nice to streamline some processes.
Cons
- I don't know if it's specific to Entra ID, but it does seem like Microsoft's been attempting to consolidate and migrate a lot of the features between a lot of different dashboards and I like that Entra ID is what it is, but the name, I never really equated it with what it does. Like user management, I would think user ID would make more sense, but I'm not a marketer, so I don't know. Sometimes finding stuff, it seems like I'll look one place for something and it was there and then a month later they've moved it to some other small little area in the Microsoft 365 dashboard. And so that's been a challenge.
- It's a positive. We get our work done every day. I have very few issues with it. It's always something weird that has to do with licensing or something like that where we figure out a way to break it. I know that Microsoft is trying to please a lot of people, so that's just going to lead to bugs, but we find a way around those.
We did. We were hybrid up until just a couple months ago. We had an onsite on-Prem active directory that we were syncing with Entra ID. We did away with that onsite because it was causing us with syncing and trying to get user data and passwords and stuff syncing properly. So we're done with that. We're just 100% Entra ID.
Yes. We use SSO for most of the core products we use like Adobe's Product Suite, zoom robin, which is a hoteling station, like a desk reservation system. Most of the other core systems that we use.
Getting rid of on-prem was the significant change. Enabling and disabling users offboarding is significantly easier. Without the on-prem version, you can have the microphone back too.
