Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Entra ID

Pretty much it's used for our identity management for all of our users that are not just on premises but also remote workers. We have quite a few remote workers and it helps solve all the secure logins when they work remotely and keeping breached accounts to a minimum.

Pros

  • It works really well with our Microsoft Authenticator application. That's for the users that we can issue phones to and for that we really like that there's an enforcement for the numbers now. It used to be you'd have what's called "MFA fatigue" where we got breaches because people would just click a proof. Now they're forced to put a number in that's shown on the screen, so it's definitely reduced the amount of attempted logins from attackers.

Cons

  • Not from my standpoint, but these guys were essentially demoing an attack that can be hosted against Entra ID from different domains and we are in that problematic because we are a forest that has sub-domains for each department, sub-department of the county that each has different domains under the same active direct lieutenant and apparently they're trying to get Microsoft to change some things to make that attack less prevalent or less capable.
  • I would say because we've always been Microsoft, so it doesn't make sense to try to get another product when your own product is going to work with your own other components. We're using all of the business, I guess called copilot now instead of Office 365. That's our only complaint about Microsoft is the constant rebranding. It gets confusing to our users, what is this now? It's like, oh yeah, it's called copilot now. The new icon made so many tickets, people were like, what is this on my desktop that's still office, just don't worry about it.
  • Very positive because we spend a lot less time worrying about those kinds of attacks now, so severely reduced a lot of the time that we've had to spend trying to figure out anomalies and logins and it makes it a lot, especially as stuff gets lifted to the cloud. Now Entra ID encompasses a lot of those workloads because we do have Azure workloads for remote, I guess you would call them just terminals in the cloud, users to use. When one of our sites go down, we tell users, "oh, go log into these virtual machines in the cloud A VD." It helps extend the active directory logins to those people without making it very cumbersome. So it very much simplifies that.
Both. We're hybrid, but we had for many years just the on-prem active directory tree. We are a sub to the major tenant sort of because there's a central IT for the county and we are like a smaller department that we still have autonomous control over the subtenant for our own active directory for our servers and workstations. But because we're part of a larger cloud, that became problematic when we started to move some of these to remote and cloud access. So it made that part of it very easy in terms of that deployment.
No, not at this point.
We have ServiceNow, our Microsoft 365 stuff, our office stuff, but pretty much for our admin tools as network administrators, service administrators, we have to decouple some of it just because there's that risk. If somebody gets an Entra ID account now they can manage our stuff. So some of the Rubrik, Tanium, we decouple that for a reason.
Yes. Positive experience, much less tickets regarding I can't log in to my account.

Do you think Microsoft Entra ID delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Microsoft Entra ID's feature set?

Yes

Did Microsoft Entra ID live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Microsoft Entra ID go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Microsoft Entra ID again?

Yes

Well, we're a 99% Windows shop, and so if you use Microsoft products at all, it's pretty much a no brainer. You're not going to use something else. That's another party's identity management over this and where it's less appropriate is like if you're using a Google Stack or something that's not Microsoft obviously.

Using Microsoft Entra ID

I would say eight, but a very high 8 because it makes for a much more convenient login for users. Especially for Windows. Hello for business, we're getting a lot of that ramped up where the only challenge now is getting a hardware card to use for logins and that's just finding a vendor that will work with Entra ID properly.
