Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Entra ID

We use Entra ID as the primary identity management provider for the enterprise. Both internal and external users. Any application that needs to authenticate, roles that need to be provisioned, external parties that we need to do things like federated authentication with, that's what we use it for.

Pros

  • Federated authentication, for example SSO with other parties and multifactor authentication.

Cons

  • Parsing the logs. When a user performs an action, it's very difficult to get that information out of the logs.
  • It has allowed us to integrate applications a lot easier, both applications that are off the shelf as well as applications that we developed that need an authentication mechanism. It integrates well with our Identity Access Management suite, which is a third party tool that plugs within Entra ID. So to sum it up, it's low friction. That means it's just really easy for us to roll new applications onto the platform.
  • It's low cost because it's something we're already a licensed for and it's substantial business value because we don't have to do these additional investments.
Yes, we do.
We do that through primarily SSO through Federated authentication, so it's a non-Microsoft app. It runs in some third party environment, and so we use SSO and SAML to integrated within our infrastructure.
We have applications that range from our identity and access management system, so that is SailPoint. We have our third party risk management tool, which is Venminder. We have a wide variety of tools that are integrated.
Oh yeah. Significantly. Authentication is virtually seamless for them. We were having problems with logins. Timing out before we moved. With Entra ID, that doesn't happen anymore.
For us, it was a natural evolution of our use of active directory. As we went from on-premises to the cloud, this was an easy extension of our authentication infrastructure. We looked at other products from Oracle, so Oracle ID, Oracle Identity Management. We looked at pink credit for single sign-on. It was just everything was built into Entra ID. Both internal use cases and external ones.

Do you think Microsoft Entra ID delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Microsoft Entra ID's feature set?

Yes

Did Microsoft Entra ID live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Microsoft Entra ID go as expected?

No

Would you buy Microsoft Entra ID again?

Yes

For federated authentication, that means single sign-on with external parties, I'd say we don't use it with our small to medium sized businesses. We have some entities that have a very small technology footprint. They don't need the complexity or the capabilities that an Entra ID offers.

Using Microsoft Entra ID

It's already there. Part of our infrastructure framework, it's well published APIs, so it's widely used and supported within the industry and it continues to grow and extend. I mean, Microsoft continues to invest in the space.
