Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Manager (RDCMan)

I have several RD machines across multiple clients' servers in a laboratory environment and do development work that needs to be tested on every machine. Each one has a slightly different OS, database, and application version(s) configuration. I often need to connect to more than one machine at a time for testing, and RDCMan simplifies monitoring and maintaining all of them.

Pros

  • I can see previews of all the machines working at the same time.
  • Having all password in one place.
  • Organization of devices based on purpose, configuration, etc.

Cons

  • I sometimes get strange connection errors and session errors that sever live connections.
  • Windows shortcut keys don't work in windowed mode.
  • I'm hesitant to use it over the internet given past problems.
  • I can troubleshoot application errors faster for clients.
  • While troubleshooting, I spend less time fumbling to find credentials and other machine-specific settings.
  • Being able to connect to the same machines from multiple devices helps me when I'm not in the office.
Overall, most features work as expected. I don't have any big complaints. I can't easily use typical Windows shortcuts in a windowed session. I do run into problems dragging and dropping files from my local machines to RDP machines—connections dropping, poor throughput, screen freezing. I would say the multiple preview windows and grouping of machines are its best features.

Do you think Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Manager (RDCMan) delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Manager (RDCMan)'s feature set?

Yes

Did Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Manager (RDCMan) live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Manager (RDCMan) go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Manager (RDCMan) again?

Yes

My work often involves iteratively testing app features or monitoring long-running processes across devices. Having all the devices showing preview screens in one place and monitoring them at the same time makes my work easier. As far as I know, it will not work with individual machines or on an RDP server, so I guess that would be a scenario where this would not work.
