Overall Satisfaction with Paychex Flex

Paychex Flex functions as our HRIS and is the point of truth for employee information and payroll. We also utilize the Time & Attendance features to capture time worked and PTO accruals/use. Managers use the Time & Attendance feature to approve/deny time off requests and take responsibility for approving the entered time before payroll is run.

Pros

  • Reports are good (for employers).
  • Employees can easily complete their personal profiles during onboarding.
  • Employees can submit time off easily; managers can easily approve/deny.
  • Calendar of time off approved is a great tool to see 'who is off when'.

Cons

  • Make it easier to run a custom report.
  • Better sync between Paychex and Time & Attendance; much information must be entered twice.
  • It's difficult to give permission to 3rd party. Please make that more intuitive.
  • Employees may make their updates, saving HR time.
  • Time off is easily managed in Paychex. The system automatically assigns approved PTO during payroll processing, saving time and minimizing mistakes.
  • Reports save us time when submitting funds to benefits vendors.
I have not used the reporting - I use reports but have not experienced a positive or negative effect on my usage. We run payroll journals and quarterly reports for bonus payments.
The representatives who answer overflow/ general calls are helpful and knowledgeable. I've struggled to reach designated account support by phone and email.
Gusto is more intuitive than Paychex and easier for smaller companies. Paychex has better customer support than Paylocity. Paychex is easier to navigate than Paycom.

Do you think Paychex delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Paychex's feature set?

Yes

Did Paychex live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Paychex go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Paychex again?

Yes

The employee interface is good, and it saves time with onboarding. Managers can see the calendar of time off easily, and payroll admins can easily add deductions.
It's better for larger businesses (50+) with various types of pay structures. Employees need to be comfortable with technology to take advantage of the self-service features. I've struggled with the default in the state tax section; extra steps must be taken when an employee lives in a different state than they work, and we don't know where they live until after completing their profile. So we have to go into the system and make the corrections, then notify the employee to go in and complete the state-specific withholding forms and follow up to confirm they do so.
