Overall Satisfaction with Qlik Sense

Qlik Sense is used across the whole organization. My team members (BI, analytics) build and publish dashboards and reports used by business owners and management. Analysts build exploratory dashboards used for research and monitoring.

Pros

  • Loads data from multiple sources (Postgres DB, web pages, files, Salesforce) to the same dashboard
  • I like the visualizations, colors, etc. (although not all team members agree on this).

Cons

  • Alerting - reporting, we use Nprinting and find it very difficult. To this day we have not figure out how to create alerts on KPIs or on data loading failures.
  • Learning to use the tool, specifically functions and script editor is not trivial for most people.
  • Loading times are long! It feels like we wait very long for data to load to a dashboard.
  • We find it hard to find online materials and get information from support representatives.
  • We experienced many errors where our solution was to restart the server - we can't tell why it happens.
  • I can't provide numbers, the general feel is that we are not using it properly and not making the most of the tool.
The main reasons we chose Qlik Sense vs. its competitors when we did were:
1. Data modeling - the ability to upload data from multiple sources and structures into one platform
2. Ability to publish dashboards
3. Pricing
4. Alerting capabilities (which we found out we can't use!)
To be fair I haven't used any of the competitors so I'm not sure, I know other services are much more expensive.
I think it is ill suited for real-time monitoring or alerting and better suited for research and insights on past data.
