Overall Satisfaction with Read&Write

We have purchased Read&Write for all our students to support universal learning design. Because it is a Google extension, it supports our Ministry-funded Chromebooks for our students with learner needs.

Pros

  • Helps students get word to page (prediction or talk&type).
  • Text-to-voice supports students with reading needs and allows students to employ an auditory self-editing strategy.
  • Higher level study skills and research tools support all students regardless of their learning profile.

Cons

  • The dictionary tool needs an elementary student-level dictionary. The existing dictionary does not support younger students and/or students with learning needs.
  • Read&Write needs to be available in the kiosk-mode on a Chromebook.
  • When using Google Docs, Read&Write needs a hotkey for non-continuous reading to aid students with attention deficits. This strategy allows them to read continuously while re-engaging with the document after each sentence. This strategy can also be used in OrbitNote with PDFs by turning off continuous reading and using click to speak.
  • Help to de-stigmatize utilizing assistive technology.
  • Supported inclusion in the classroom.
  • Increased access because Read&Write is not device dependent.
Customer service is good! In the past, I could call and feel our issues were being heard. Now it feels less personal since my rep left.
Because Read&Write isn't device-dependent, our students can access support in a variety of circumstances: on their own ministry-funded device, on their home device, or on Chromebook carts/ mobile labs.
Read&Write is more economical, accessible (not device-dependent), and supports the Google platform. Texthelp's customer service is far more supportive, and Texthelp's R&D is far more innovative.
